At Salem Realty, we understand that just about everyone dreams of buying a home someday, and we are here to help you find the ideal home for your needs and budget. If you are ready to start looking for a new home—whether you are buying for the first time or looking for an upgrade on the one you have—we encourage you to consider the following three things before you buy.
- Budget – Before you buy a home, you should take the time to figure out how much you can afford to spend on housing per month. Make sure you include the mortgage, utility bills, and things like property taxes in your calculations. Then, use that figure, plus the down payment you have in mind, to determine what price range you should be looking at.
- Location – Another thing to consider before you buy a home is the location. We recommend looking around the neighborhood to see how the area feels and figuring out how close the house is to important locations like gas stations, grocery stores, etc. If you have kids or plan to, you should also research the local schools to make sure they are a good fit.
- Commute Times – This ties into location, but you should also consider how far away from work a house is before you buy the property. In other words, before you buy a home, you should make sure you are comfortable with the commute time between the home and your workplace.
